Your high school years are about finding your independence as you prepare for the future. The four years will pass quickly, believe it! You need to schedule well and work diligently to get the grades and credits you need to pursue higher education at colleges and universities. Even though this seems like plenty of work, you can take steps so you won’t find yourself cramming before the semester ends. In this article we will offer study tips that will assist students in how to spend their time more efficiently. The majority of high school students have issues with being organized; creating a daily schedule will keep you on task. You shouldn’t just depend on remembering dates; buy a daily planner or date book and stay current with what you need to do from day to day. Stay on schedule to the extent that you can in order to make deadlines with no need for cramming. An important part of being organized is a good study location that gives you plenty of room for your books and paperwork, limits distractions, has good lighting, and is comfortable. Always remember to have all the supplies required to get the job done, from the high tech like a PC and printer, to basics like paper and writing instruments. Wasted time is yet one more dilemma that high school students encounter. Naturally, in high school you will have activities, such as athletics or organizations that will use up time, but these are acceptable “time wasters.” You do, however, need to exercise some restraint when it comes to spending time. Set small periods of time to watch TV, play video games, or talk on the phone until you have your homework done. Don’t be afraid to turn your friends down if they want to hang out but you still have homework to do. Effective note-taking is a crucial skill that pupils need to develop. The notes you take from textbooks, films, journals, and lectures must all be easily understood and accurate. When note-taking, you should scan every textbook page and concentrate on the most important terms. These terms will be the titles or categories for your notes pertaining to a subject. Jot down your notes in the subsection as you read over the page. Focusing on pointers that bring to mind the session content can help you to go over certain parts later so that you will not have to re-read information you know already.Establishing a short range objective of effective study habits will facilitate reaching your eventual goal of graduating. Have a to-do list of your activities and adhere to it as often as possible. When you need to study instead of being with family and friends, they will understand. Good time management and organizational skills are the secret to a successful high school career. If you want to get the most out of your four years, then plan your events well.

Picking a theme for your high school yearbook can be a daunting task. Here are a few things to keep in mind before you get started.

Research the Past:

The first thing you will want to do when you are looking for a theme for your yearbook is to do some research. Gather up all the yearbooks that you can get your hands on, including past editions of those from your school, other schools, and perhaps even the yearbooks of the parents of your staff members. Once you have a pretty decent pile of books, go over them with your editorial staff and make a list of themes that you like, and why they worked. You can also make note of what themes didn’t work and why, just so you know what to avoid as well. The purpose of this exercise is not, of course, to borrow or steal any ideas, but just to get a sense of what has been done before and what worked and why. If nothing else, looking at the work of others is always a great way to get the conversation started, and to get your group’s creative juices flowing.

Consider The Current Year.

If there was a defining event or achievement that left its mark on the school year, this is also a great place to look for a theme. If you, way, won a slew of state championships, had a big celebrity or political figure show up to speak, or whatever it is that you feel made the year stand out. Get your staff together and brainstorm some words that describe the year in general and use this list as a springboard to creating the theme for your yearbook.

Common Pitfalls:

One of the most common mistakes yearbook staffs make is choosing a theme that might be considered an “inside joke” that only they or a few select students will be in on. Just as you try to make sure that every student is included in the yearbook itself, you will want to do the best you can to make sure that the vast majority of the student body will understand the theme and that they can relate to in in some way. One way to ensure this is to have a vote of the entire student body once you have narrowed your theme ideas down to three or four. Some staffs, however prefer that their themes be somewhat of a secret until the books some out, so you will have to decide which is more important to you.

A Note About School Colors and Mascot:

You will always have to consider, of course, using the colors of your school as well as your school mascot. However, think of your theme first, last, and always. If you can find creative and novel ways to incorporate these items into your theme, then great. If not, don’t try to put a square peg into a round hole. The key is not to feel bound by your school colors and mascots when creating your theme, but to feel free to go in the direction that you choose.

Whatever your theme is, above all, have fun!

There are many differences between high school and college. First is the environment. High school is where you can get all the guidance from teachers whereas in college, you need to be more independent in life. In high school, what you basically have to do is sit down and listen to what the teacher have to say. However in college, do not expect any spoon-feeding from anyone including your lecturers. Lecturers expect you to participate in class to give ideas on what he or she is lecturing. You need to have initiative in participating in the class activities. Second on the list is freedom. In high school, you are restricted to all kind of rules. For example, you need to wear a uniform and follow all the school rules. In colleges, you are free to do whatever you like but of course, please do not harm anyone. There won’t be anyone to shout at you on what to do and what not to do.Thirdly is the work given by the school and college. In high school, the work given refers to homework because it is a task given by teacher to their students in daily basis. They need to bring it back home to complete it. In colleges however, they are referred to as assignments because they are given to students to solve a problem related to the course that they are taking. It is said that assignments help them prepare for working life. Assignments usually have a specific deadline. It is common for college students to do the assigned work at the very last minute. Fourth on the list is the social life. There are only few co-curriculums activities in high school. They are specially designed to cater for academic purposes. In colleges, there are ample clubs, organizations and parties for you to join. However it is important to balance between academic and social activities. There are many students who find it hard to balance these, therefore it affects their studies. Finally, there is the decision making. Parents usually make decision for their children. They make decisions based on what they think is the best for their children. However as children grow older and enter college life, they cannot rely on their parents anymore. They need to make their own decisions and bear all consequences themselves.
